Contextual Studies on Photographers

Tony Ray-Jones

Tony Ray-Jones studied in America, but he took his photos in England.

He has a book called England Through a Lens.

He only wanted to record and document his images, he never wanted to exhibit them.

He made notes to himself when he went out to take photos. Also he took his images for self expression.

"Find another world with a camera" Tony Ray-Jones

Martin Parr

Martin Parr is one of the great British photographers. He always had a point of view.

His photos are, boring, valguar, domestic, venacular and bland. He was an observer photographer and all the photos he took are very exploring, He took advantage in his photos.

Parr was very selective with the photos he took.

"But the ordinary becomes extra-ordinary"

Robert Frank

The Americans 1958.

The book is a snapshot documentary, in an artless style.

This book was created at the time of the cold war, most of his photos shoe the difference between rich and normal people. Also it shows the divide between the black and white.

One of his photos is of a cowboy in the city. This photo is juxtaposition, because you don't normally see a cowboy in the city.

Corinne Day

Day took photos directly from her life, subjective photography.

She took portraits, ones from her everyday life, her photos had their own personal style, sometimes she featured in her own photos, some of her photos showed intimacy. Her photos were not always good quality. She is a snapshot photographer.
