Processing Film

Film is sensitive to all light even the light in the dark room.

Once you have shot a roll of film you put the film back into the canasta while it is still in the camera. Once the film is all in the canasta, you can take it out of the camera. Next you cut off the beginning of the film so you have a straight line so you can put your film into the spoil. Before you go into a completely dark room, you put the beginning of your film on to the spoil by connected it to the bearings in the spoil, also you make sure you have all the equipment you need. You need a pole that you place inside the tub so you spoil stays in the same place, you need a tub with a lid that you spin onto the top of your tub to stop light getting to the film and you also need a plastic id to place on the top just incase.

After you make sure you have everything, you now go into the completely darkroom, before you close the door place everything in front of you so you know where everything is. When you are in complete darkness you can start to roll your film onto the spoil. You do this by pulling the film out of the canasta, and then you keep you left hand still and move you right hand round so the film moves, you continue to do this till the film is all in the spoil, cut of the end of the film roll. Place the spoil on to the pole and then connect it to the tub and spin the lid onto the top. When the lid is on the top you can leave the dark room.

You then have to put the chemicals in, with the developer you have 1 part chemical, 3 parts water, so we put 75ml of developer with 225ml of water at 20 degrees. We then put the mixture into the tub, we rocked the tub nearly constantly for 20minutes, the time you use the developer for depends on the type of film you use. After you have used the developer you tip the developer out down the skin, then you put 300ml of stop in the tub, you rock the fix for 1 minute and then you tip the stop back where you got it from. Next you use the fix chemical and again you use 300ml and you leave your film in the fix for 10 minutes. You the tip the fix back in to the tub you got it from.

Once you are finished with the chemicals you then have to wash the film while it is still in the tub. You have to wash the film 50-100 times to make sure all the chemicals are off the film. You can use a wetting agent to help stop the limestone, you only need a few drops in water.

Finally you put the film in the dryer and wait for it to dry. You then cut the film up and have 6 photos on each strip. And then you place it in your film folder to keep the film safe.
