Techniques and Artist Research

We are creating 3D photos by using loads of different techniques, some the techniques we have used so far are sowing and weaving. We have also created a digital exposer using photoshop.

Stitching.

We are sowing onto the photograph to give it texture, by sowing onto the photo it makes the photo look less smooth because of the stitching on the photo. Also it makes the photo look different because you can add colours into the photo by using different coloured thread by doing this you can make the photo look completely different to the original photo, this is good because it shows that you can do different things with your photos and you can explore other ways of making a photo.

Artist Research - Maurizio Anzeri

Anzeri makes his portraits by sowing on to vintage photographs.

His embroiled patterns finish the photo like a costume, they also suggest a psychological aura, like he is revealing the persons thoughts and feeling with what he as stitched on to the photo. The antique appearance of the images is sometimes very odd with the silky shimmer of the thread and the sharp lines the he puts on the image.

Weaving.

Next we weaved photos together we did this by printing off two different but similar photos, we then cut the photos into 1cm strips, you had to cut on width ways and the other length ways, you recreated your photo on a piece of paper and put making tape along the top to hold it in place, then you weave your other photo into the photo on the piece of paper. Once you have woven both photos together you place masking tape around the edge of the photos to hold it in place. This makes the photo look unique and different because you have got two photos woven together, i like this technique although it does take a lot of time.

Artist Research - Inge Jacobsen

She is known for her unique work, she mainly uses found images from

advertisement and magazines to create her work. She weaves two images together or weaves through found images, she is hijacking the image to create a more personal and tactile response.

Digital Double Exposer.

We created our digital double exposers on photoshop using layers, layer masks, opacity and blend modes. For

my digital double i used a landscape photo and a portrait of my boyfriend, i used the landscape as my background and i have the portrait on the top, i used the layer mask tool to take the background of the portrait of my boyfriend away, by taking the background away you were able to see the landscape. I had the landscape around him. I like this technique because you can easily combine two photos together to make the photo look different which gives the photo a new finish, the photo looks different because the photos are different and not the same, sometimes by dong this the photo can look odd because of the way it has been done but it can also look amazing because you have put a lot of thought into the photo.

John Stezaker

Stezaker is the leading artist in contemporary photographic

collage and appropriation. He creates seductive and fascinating small format collages, they have qualities of surrealism, dada and found art. He also says that the images “find him” not the other way round. He overlays and conjoin distinct images to create something completely differ and weird. They create new personalities, landscapes and scenes.
